Ted Talks Critique #3

Faith Jegede: What I’ve learned from my autistic brothers

Faith begins her talk by stating "Don’t tell me I’m normal." Then she introduces her two younger brothers. Remi is 22, tall and very handsome. Her brother Samuel is 16 and also very handsome.

What she makes very clear is that her brothers don’t fit the mold of "ordinary" that society has created, but they are rather "extraordinary." They are extraordinary because they see the world in a different way than most conventional people do. They have changed the way that she, herself sees the world we live in.

Faith’s brothers are autistic. She explains that every 20 minutes someone around the world is diagnosed with this disorder. They have inspired her to share with others to pursue a life beyond what is normal because it will ultimately hold you back from achieving what you truly want.
